Teenage and pre-teen girls Low self-Esteem

A survey recently carried out involving 500 young girls in the UK, has revealed a worrying tendency towards low self-esteem among this group, whose ages range from 11 to 17 years. It was discovered that twenty five per cent of them felt under duress to conform to a false image of perfect woman hood, while twenty per cent believed they would benefit in some way if they could change their physical appearance. A further five per cent believed they were in some ways physically ugly

The facts of the survey ,which was commissioned by Dove and carried out by the Future Foundation, revealed the disturbing effects that low self-esteem can have on these young girls future prospects, with only a third questioned feeling confident enough in believing they will achieve any level of success in a chosen career.

The result of this low self-esteem on young girls has meant that they spend almost as much time applying make-up and beauty products as they spend on homework and study. Half of the girls questioned indicated they would prefer to have an improved physical appearance and that this would enhance their lives in some way.

The impact that these trends reveal, indicate a bleak outlook for women’s role in the future society of Britain.

The results of this survey predict a bleak future for women in the future of this country. If the young women of today fail to reach their full potential, by the middle of this century it is predicted that we could have lost thousands of women entrepreneurs, doctors and lawyers, plus over fifty women members of parliament.

These predictions are the result of adolescent girls suffering from low self-esteem never aspiring to high profile careers.

The picture painted by this survey in not an inspiring one. The future of thousands of our young women destined for a life of low expectations and unfulfilled potential. But there are steps that can be taken to prevent this happening.

A programme aimed to raise the self-esteem of young girls aged between eleven and fourteen and to be run out across the country in workshops for schools has been launched by Dove.

Parents and other adults must also play a part in helping raise the self-esteem of young girls. They must teach them to ignore the air brushed models seen in the popular glossy magazines. They should explain to them that personality and a bright outgoing nature are as important as physical appearance. Restrict the time you spend with bad people and find more positive people to hang around with. Many great leaders say we become who we spend more time with. If your life is pretty negative, look at who you hang around with. Even more, take a look at what mindset you’re making there.

Start to become more conscious of what precisely you’re contemplating and stating. We used to have a ‘Positivity Jar’ in my ‘Success’ classes to keep negativity under control.

We made an agreement at the start of the semester that each time a student said some thing bad, they had to place a penny in the jar. At any time I said some thing negative, I had to put in a quarter.

With 10 classes annually, we obtained enough to give to the Rhode Island Food Bank. The result? A more optimistic environment that we all benefited from.

I have been reading and hearing a lot lately about people who are saying that loud motorcycle pipes are a major problem in the world. These groups are trying to get those in government to pass all sorts of new inspection laws for motorcycle pipes. Seeing as motorcycles make up such a small percentage of the traffic on the road, I would say this problem is very minimal at best.I wonder how many cars with bad mufflers are heard that many think are motorcycles.

These people complain saying motorcycle riders like loud pipes because they are juvenile and want to show off and say, “Hey, look at me!” and draw attention to themselves. The reason many bikers like loud pipes is not to say, “Look at me,” it’s to say, “Look out for me!” Many car drivers these days are talking on the phone, texting, putting on makeup, eating, playing loud music, watching DVDs and just not paying attention to the road in front of them. If you’re in a car and you get hit, you may get a dent in your car, bikers can and do die! (Nothing enjoyable in life is completely safe.)

These groups against loud pipes know gathering citizens together to complain is very easy, if they ask people while they are sitting around bored all summer-long, “Have you ever heard a loud motorcycle go by?” They are going to say, “Yes they have!” These groups are then going to talk about how annoying these motorcycles are and convince these bored people how much better their lives would be if these motorcycles where gone! These bored people are going to jump right on board! But now ask these same people when was the last time you heard a loud motorcycle go by? They will probably hard-pressed to find an answer. Was it weeks ago, months ago, was it two years ago?

There are already laws on the books in every state that say a motorcycles pipes can only be so loud. We do not need new laws on the books that most officers will do nothing about while others will abuse.

This country spends too much time whining about things. Let’s stop and think about motorcycles. Motorcycles prevent traffic, they prevent wear and tear on the roads, and they are great for saving fuel. They are also a great relaxer, those who ride motorcycles are a lot less stressed!

Those who ride enjoy life a lot more. This is like therapy and religion all rolled up into one for us! Please do not bring the stress and problems of your dull boring lives into our world. If people stopped complaining about motorcycles and rode a motorcycle they might not be so bored with their lives and they would have something better to do with their time! * Accept your mistakes-we all have our own set of flaws and mistakes. It is essential to be able to recognize and accept them. This is the only way for us to recognize what we did wrong and what we can do to correct or improve it. Keep in mind that nobody’s perfect.

* Stop criticizing-it is important that you stop criticizing yourself if you want to improve your self-esteem. in the same way that you also have to stop criticizing others and accept one’s uniqueness.

* Share and help others-in order to help you recognize your strengths, it helps to know that you can do so many things for others. Helping others gives us that satisfying feeling of altruism.
